Community Activities
THJC is dedicated to improving access to quality healthcare for Black communities in Tallahassee and nearby areas. We want to make sure our project truly helps the community by listening to their voices and treating them as experts of their own experiences. We value community involvement and input in this important work. Here are some things we have done to engage the community and ensure our work benefits everyone.
Team collaborations increase the likelihood of existing health systems and community partners adopting new evidence-based practices that could change the way care is delivered.
-
Community Listening Sessions: We talked with community members and leaders to hear their thoughts about health issues in the Black community in Tallahassee and nearby areas. This helped us focus on what matters most to the community.
-
Historical Interviews: We spoke with community members to hear their thoughts and experiences about racism, discrimination, and bias that Black communities in Tallahassee and nearby counties have faced in the past.
-
Health System Information Gathering Sessions: We met with our health system partners to learn about their patients, the problems they see in their clinics, and where they think changes are needed.
